![]() Just to go to church would have taken a long time by horse and buggy. Driving from home to home we got a sense of how difficult it was for them to get from place to place. As things progressed so did the buildings. They left some of the buildings so that tourists could stop and see how the mountaineers lived through the years in this area. There was a town that was taken by the government when that area became part of the Smokey Mountain National Forest. We saw people fly fishing in the streams. We saw beautiful birds, wild turkeys, and a bear as we were driving out of the forest. The trees had their leaves and the wild flowers were blooming. Our favorite part, during our short stay, was our drive in the Smokey Mountain National Forest. In one such shop, we spoke with a man who makes mantles. A very nice drive with many shops along the route that feature woodworking, pottery, glassworks, and weaving. In Gatlinburg, we drove the artists loop. (At a liquor store, not the market in Tennessee – not yet, but the law is changing.) We learned that Pigeon Forge (although there is whiskey tasting) does not sell liquor/wine, however if you need to purchase wine, it can be purchased in Gatlinburg. The Farm Kitchen Shop had a nice lunch (lobster bisque soup), and they sell lots of mixes for soups and breads. We enjoyed the Historic Old Saw Mill area in Pigeon Forge. We only visited one antique shop in Pigeon Forge, however, there are many shops located on Wears Valley Road. They also like pancakes….there is a pancake restaurant every few hundred feet. If you like ice-cream, fudge and T-shirts you will like the downtowns of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. ![]() The towns of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are touristy, very touristy. Hopefully, it is readable by enlarging the photo. We have taken a picture of the Kings Holly Haven RV Park brochure, so that you could read about the family history. There is also a very nice antique shop near our campground. We had a family of very cute ducklings near our trailer. The park is family owned, small, nice sites, and quiet. We stayed in Kings Holly Haven RV Park in Pigeon Forge, TN. Our next stop on our way to North Carolina was Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, TN.
